About
I began working in design futures after witnessing firsthand the often catastrophic consequences of short-term thinking and consumption.
Julienne founded Liminal, a design futures agency, to reimagine how design can support long-term, systems change. After years of formal training at a design firm, she found that design was too often treated as an output rather than a way of shaping decisions from the outset. Futures and foresight offered a natural complement, centering long-term thinking while creating space for design to inform every stage of the planning and strategy process.
At Liminal, Julienne's approach blends strategic foresight, systems thinking, and design methods to develop strategies 5+ years into the future. She has worked with public and private organizations alike, including the European Commission, OECD, International Monetary Fund, Adobe, Enterprise Mobility, Autodesk, and EY, among others.
Julienne earned her MFA in Transdisciplinary Design from The New School and a BA in Multimedia Design from American University. She resides in Washington, DC, with her partner.
A staunch advocate of the democratization of learning, Julienne encourages learners to challenge assumptions, anticipate change, and engage in long-term thinking.
As an adjunct professor at Parsons School of Design, Julienne teaches futures studies and creative AI to undergraduate and professional learners. She developed the Speculative Design and Futures Studies and AI for Creativity and Leadership curricula for the continuing and professional education department. Her subversive teaching environment bypasses classroom hierarchy by centering experiential learning.
Select courses include:
-
Design with AI, School of Design Strategies, Parsons
-
Design Futures, CPE Department, Parsons
-
AI for Creativity and Leadership, CPE Department, Parsons
-
Creativity, AI, and Social Justice, University Lecture, The New School

Julienne's artistic research practice is based in movement arts such as contact improvisation, Social Presencing Theatre, and visual mediums. Since 2022, she has been studying Embodied Futures, an artistic research practice that studies change through movement and presencing.
